John Mueller from Google noted that this evolution allows SEOs to prioritize content creation over technical fixes. As AI search formats develop, content that is accessible and high-quality will naturally perform better without the need for specialized AI optimizations.

Risks of Chasing AI-Specific Tactics

The push for Answer Engine Optimization (AEO) and Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) in AI tools like ChatGPT is misplaced, given their minimal traffic share—estimated at only 0.2-0.5%. Focusing on these tactics could lead to inefficient strategies and low returns on investment. Sullivan cautioned against complicating SEO efforts with drastic shifts aimed at AI, asserting that sticking to proven methods yields more reliable outcomes in the long run.
